Sullivan County arrest records are handled by the Sheriff's Office in the city of Sullivan. This western Indiana county has about 21,000 residents and a small jail that processes bookings for the area.
Sullivan County Quick Facts
Sullivan County Sheriff Booking Records
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is the main law enforcement agency in the county. The sheriff runs the county jail and processes all booking records when someone is arrested. Deputies patrol the rural parts of Sullivan County, while the Sullivan City Police handle calls within town limits. Both agencies bring people to the county jail for booking.
Each booking creates a record that shows the person's name, charges, date of arrest, and bond amount. These records are public under Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3. You can request copies by contacting the sheriff's office in Sullivan. In-person requests are usually the fastest way to get records from a small county like this, though phone requests work too.
Sullivan County does not have a large online presence for its sheriff's office. You may need to call or visit in person to get specific booking information. The jail staff can tell you if someone is currently held and what charges they face.
Note: Sullivan County sits near the Illinois border. Arrests involving people from out of state follow the same local booking process. The records stay with the Sullivan County Sheriff regardless of where the person lives.
Sullivan County Inmate Lookup
The INjail portal is the best online tool for checking who is currently held in the Sullivan County jail. This state-run system lets you search by name or browse inmates by county. Select Sullivan County from the dropdown and you can see current inmates, their charges, and booking dates.
The INjail portal is free to use and covers jails across the state.
Search any Indiana county jail through this portal, including Sullivan County.
The portal updates on a regular cycle but may lag behind real-time changes. If someone was just released or transferred, the portal may still show them as an inmate for a short time. For the most current status, call the Sullivan County jail directly.
If you are trying to find someone who was convicted and sent to state prison, use the Indiana DOC offender locator instead. That tool tracks people in the state prison system, not county jails.
Sullivan County Court Records
Criminal cases from Sullivan County arrests are filed in the Sullivan Circuit Court or Sullivan Superior Court. The court clerk in Sullivan handles all filings and maintains case records. You can search these for free on MyCase, which is the state court records portal. Enter a name or case number to pull up charges, hearing dates, and case outcomes.
The MyCase portal gives you access to court records across the state.
Results show the charges filed, case status, hearing schedule, and the judge handling each case.
Court records go deeper than what a jail booking log provides. They track each step of a case, from the prosecutor's initial filing through motions, plea agreements, trials, and sentencing. If someone was arrested in Sullivan County and charges were filed, the case should appear in MyCase within a few days. Not every arrest leads to charges, though. If the prosecutor decides not to pursue a case, there may be a booking record with no matching court file.

Sullivan County Expungement
Indiana Code 35-38-9 allows certain arrest and conviction records in Sullivan County to be sealed. You file a petition in the Sullivan County court that handled the original case. The eligibility depends on the type of offense and how much time has passed since it happened.
Arrests where no charges were filed can be sealed right away. Cases that were dismissed qualify after one year. Misdemeanor convictions need a five-year waiting period. Level 6 felony convictions require eight years. The judge reviews each petition and decides whether to grant it based on the offense, the time elapsed, and your criminal record since then.
Once records are sealed, they no longer appear in public searches on MyCase or through the ISP system. Law enforcement and some agencies retain access, but employers and the general public cannot see them. Contact the Sullivan County court clerk or a local attorney for help with the process.
Note: Indiana law limits you to one expungement filing. Make sure you include all eligible cases in a single petition.
