The Lawrence Police Department handles arrests and incident reports within city limits. Lawrence operates its own police force separate from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, even though both are in Marion County. Under Indiana's APRA, agencies must respond to in-person or telephone requests within 24 hours. Written requests by email, fax, or mail must be acknowledged within seven days. Agencies cannot charge you just to view records. Copy fees vary but must be reasonable. No labor, overhead, or search fees are allowed.
If your request is denied, the agency must provide a written denial with the statutory citation and the name of the official responsible.
